Car Carriers

Car Carriers are vessels especially designed to carry various types of vehicles, from passenger cars to agricultural and construction machinery.

Their interior is like a multi-story parking lot, some with adjustable heights to accommodate the height of large vehicles.

MOL ACE (Auto Carrier Express) is MOL’s unified global brand for its car carrier services, offering high quality, safety, and reliability from the start of operations in 1965. MOL meets various customer needs under this unified brand.

Brand ACE is included in the name of our Car Carriers. It represents our determination to expand even more in the global market while we pursue initiatives on the forefront of environmental protection and new technologies.

We are one of the largest automobile carriers in the world, operating nearly 110 vessels, with an office and agency network covering about 140 countries.

In our new generation of Car Carriers, the FLEXIE series, we have increased the number of decks (from 12 to 14) and more than doubled the space on liftable decks, with movable floors and ceilings.

What does that mean? Greater efficiency loading and flexibility to accommodate vehicles of all sizes.

Thinking end-to-end for greater efficiency

Unobstructed internal structure

The structural redesign allowed eliminating interior pillars, improving the internal visibility, and facilitating loading and unloading operations.

Straight slopes

Instead of spiral routes, long slopes enable a straight drive to the upper deck, improving operating efficiency and reducing the risk of accidents.

with much respect for the environment

Intelligent design

The streamlined body reduces wind resistance, creating savings in fuel use.

Efficient propulsion

The advanced propeller optimizes the water flow and improved propulsion of the vessel.

Headed to net zero emission car transportation

MOL has signed an agreement with Nihon Shipyard Co. and Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co. to build Car Carriers that will use environment-friendly liquified natural gas (LNG) as their main fuel.

Compared to conventional marine fuel oil, LNG is expected to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), which is a greenhouse gas (GHG), by about 25%-30%, and sulfur oxide (SOx) by 100%.

This initiative for the ‘Adoption of Clean Alternative Fuels’ is one of MOL’s action plans to achieve the plan in “MOL Group Environmental Vision 2.1”, which aims to achieve net zero GHG emissions by 2050.
